The Brains Behind The Machines
Flushing Pheasant Video Productions was established in 1999 by Mark and Julie Herman; a team of experienced professionals in the fields of video production, journalism and graphic design. Our marriage has created a terrifically talented team of professionals who can take your project from concept, to field or studio production, into the editing process, with satisfied final delivery of one computer file or hundreds of DVDs… and finish with artfully clever packaging design. FPVP has created hundreds of videos for clients across the country. Our work has received national recognition for distinction in the fields of videography and communications.
Mark Herman has built a career in professional video production, thoughtful script writing and skillful post-production editing. That creativity has been evolving since graduating from Iowa State University in 1985 with a degree in broadcast journalism and video production. Mark followed that up with a master’s degree in Speech Communication from Eastern Illinois University.
Mark’s experience in broadcasting began as a news and sports reporter for television stations including WICD-TV in Champaign and WAND-TV in Decatur. At that time, Mark spent his time in front of the camera as he conducted interviews, and produced news and sports stories for daily broadcast.
Mark worked for the University of Illinois for more than a decade as the first Video Director for the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. He provided video service for the Illinois football coaching staff and was the primary resource for all creative and promotional projects that originated in the athletic department.
Mark continued to develop his professional production skill set in the Video Division at Human Kinetics in Champaign, Ill. As post-production manager, he helped create videos for legendary basketball coaches Mike Krzyzewski and John Wooden, as well as wrestling coach Dan Gable.
Today, Mark’s creativity is spent behind the camera lense working closely with our clients to capture the best results in high definition video!
Julie Herman is an award-winning communicator, who has worked as a reporter, publication specialist and sports publicist for more than 30 years.
She received a bachelor’s degree in communication arts from the University of Dayton in 1984 and a master’s degree in athletic administration from Kent State University in 1990.
Julie covered high school, collegiate and professional sports for Ohio’s largest suburban daily newspaper, The News-Herald, before serving as Sports Information Director at John Carroll University in Cleveland for four years.
She left John Carroll to become publications coordinator and an assistant sports information director for the University of Illinois’ Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Julie supervised the production of all the DIA’s printed work, including media guides, game programs, posters and press releases.
Today, in addition to her work behind the camera, Julie handles all graphic design development for FPVP including production graphics and DVD/Blu-Ray disc design and packaging. She also assists with script production and has been known to put her voice to work when a female narrator is requested.
“I worked with Mark on a series of videos that needed to tell the story of the hard work and dedication of Carle nurses over a year-long campaign. Mark was a joy to work with; he was always prepared with just the right tools for the job. His relaxed manner put our employees at ease when they were on camera, and he offered great suggestions on how to make the videos better. When shooting was completed, Mark worked closely with me in cutting the footage together to my specifications, adding sound and graphics, and delivering a great package within a reasonable time period. The nursing department was thrilled with their finished videos, and they were most helpful in educating and inspiring our employees during the campaign.”
